Statement of Activity

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to our enhanced website from Myanmar Yang Tse Copper Limited. It is our endeavour to delve into the beauty of the country that we are cooperating with involving the extractive industry of copper ore from the one and only Monywa No.1 Copper Mine, and to highlight the preservation of social and environmental considerations we have implemented as a responsible mining production. Historically identified as the Sabetaung, Kyisintaung and Letpadaung Projects (S,K&L) from previous mining endeavours, the MYTCL organisation has separated the S&K ore bodies from the Letpadaung copper reserves as an individually operated, yet collective entity of Wanbao Mining Ltd. Myanmar Wanbao Mining Copper Limited has become the operator of the Letpadaung mine.
Representing an anthology of our existing Myanmar copper websites, this new and vibrant collection has been composed to enlighten those who have little, to no information, on the progress of the cooperation between the Myanmar Government and the corporation of Wanbao Mining Ltd. of China. Within this site you will find specific and reliable international adherences to standards practiced within developed countries as the foundations for the extractive practice applied within Myanmar by MYTCL.
While mining has historically affected its surrounding environment, advances in technology and changes in management techniques mean that many negative impacts are now avoidable. Increasingly, mining companies such as Myanmar Yang Tse Copper Limited are making efforts to reduce the environmental impact of mining and minimise the footprint of activities throughout the mining cycle, including working to restore ecosystems post-mining. This site exemplifies the positive impacts responsible copper mining has had within the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and we are more than transparent in our initiatives. To provide some background data, Wanbao Mining was incorporated on October 27, 2004 with a registered capital of RMB 5.0 billion. With many mining subsidiary entities overseas established as a Beijing-based specialised international mining company, our business scope ranges from exploration, mining, ore processing, smelting, trade of mineral products, investment and the operation of relevant industry. Myanmar Yang Tse Copper Limited is an operation adhering to the committed leadership of this international enterprise. www.wbmining.com and www.myanmaryangtse.com.mm
Copper from the Monywa deposits have been extracted from shallow underground workings and smelted since the ages of the Myanmar Kings. From 1957 to the early 1980’s, exploration by Myanmar agencies continued in cooperation with the United Nations, Japanese and Yugoslavian agencies.

Copper is the earth's 25th most abundant element, but one of the less common first row transition metals.

The mine closure phase can also introduce increased safety risks to employees, who, faced with mine closure and consequent loss of employment may have reduced motivation and morale, which can lead to workplace safety issues.

We at MYTCL understand the importance of sustainability to the ever changing needs of the community and the environment. Sustainable development is shaping our company every day, as we too are reshaping, or re-handling the environments we have engaged. We believe for our Myanmar copper business to be successful we need to achieve a sustainable balance between our own interests and those of the society within which we operate.
Through partnerships with environmental experts both from within Myanmar, and from external sources, and by using the latest technologies available we are always seeking and finding innovative ways to help reduce the impact of our Myanmar copper operations on the environment. Additionally, being good neighbours means working with people close to our operations to address their concerns and provide them with opportunities from our activities.
This site engages the public to consider the most critical aspect of Myanmar mining and the environments (social and physical) that it clearly influences:
Absolutely YES
Copper mining is extractive and will always leave some mark on our planet. Over time, however, the risks have been mitigated by modern Myanmar copper mining technologies. This is an ongoing process that is achieving change in every country, in every year and at a scale of brilliant escalation led by environmental protection activities. Meanwhile, the (vastly diminished) risks associated with mining copper are far outweighed by the economic contribution and positive effects on local communities and the greater society. This net-positive contribution is here to stay.
